Tales of Symphonia(GC)
FAQ/Walkthrough
File Created: 4/29/07
By: Fishy Crackers
"Once upon a time there existed a giant tree that
was the source of all mana. A war, however, caused
this tree to wither away, and a hero's life was
sacrificed in order to take its place. Grieving
over the loss, the goddess disappeared unto the
heavens. The goddess left the angels with the
edict: "You must wake me, for if I should sleep,
the world shall be destroyed." The angels bore
the Chosen One, who headed towards the tower that
reached up unto the heavens. And that marked the
beginning of the regeneration of the world."
Note: For easy searching, highlight a section name and number(without the
spaces at the beginning), press Ctrl + F and paste the section name in the
menu. Press find and voila! For Mac users, use the command key in place of the
control key.

If you're reading this FAQ, chances are you already know some basics about
this game. This is most COMPLETE FAQ on the net. Yeah, I'm brave enough to
say that. I have put enemies by location, long boss strategies, compound EX
Skills, cooking, and an walkthrough with sidenotes, tips, and many extras.

{2.0} Basics
+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+
Tales of Symphonia is a very complex Action RPG. The basics might seem
intimidating, but it's not actually all that hard once you start playing the
game.
==============================================================================
[2.1] Storyline
==============================================================================
Once there was a Tree of Mana. There was a great war called The War of
Kharlan. This destroyed the tree and all of its mana, the source of all life.
The war ended abruptly with no energy to power the machines. To restore the
mana and ensure a time of flourishment, a Chosen One must break the seals of
all the temples and receive a blessing from an angel. She must then be
sacrificed as the new body for Martel, a goddess and achieve world
regeneration.
Many people are racist towards half-elves in the game. Half-elves lived in
pain and suffering every day. Mithos, the legendary hero, vowed to stop this.
He was said to have stopped the war 1000 years ago with his goal being to stop
the racism and bring peace throughout the world. After stopping the war 1000
years ago, he disappeared. What happened to him?
Among that, you will hear about the Desians, an organization of half-elves
trying to stop the journey of the Chosen One. You'll also hear about the
Angels of Cruxis. Their goals and intentions are unknown.
You will encounter twists, traitors, mysteries, and true friendship. If you
hold together, you can overcome anything.
==============================================================================
[2.2] Characters
==============================================================================
Here's your main cast of characters. I'll try to keep it short. Keep in mind
that this list is spoiler-free and has a bio of the character when you first
meet them.
Lloyd Irving
------------
Lloyd is a lazy student that's not too confident in his studies. However, he
is strong and confident. He is an idealist like the legendary Mithos and may
one day become a legend himself. His parents died when he was born leaving
him to be raised by a dwarf. He treasures his friends and won't give up on
them or his ideas of bringing peace.
Lloyd is an excellent character to use. You can never go wrong with him since
he's the main character and will often be allowed for you to use. His attacks
are quick and very easy to make combos with.
Genis Sage
----------
The opposite of Lloyd. He is a magic user and likes to study. Genis is very
bright although just a kid. He is a good friend and would try to help anybody
that's suffering. He hides the fact that he is a half-elf so nobody will tease
him. Genis can't hold up by himself, but he has great friends like Lloyd to
keep him company. Him and Lloyd play together within his village, Iselia.
Genis is the black mage of this game. He learns many magic attacks of
different elements, but has a weak attack power. He's very useful as his magic
attacks pierce many enemy defenses and can find weaknesses.
Raine Sage
----------
Genis's older sister. She is a wise teacher and, although not showing it
often, a very kind woman. Her parents abandoned her when Genis was born and
was left to care for him by herself. She tries to spread knowledge and makes
the right decisions, although not exactly willing to take risks in trusting
anybody. Her cooking has a unique taste, but that's OK as Genis is a wonderful
chef.
She's the white mage. She also has weak attack power, but her magic that can
heal is invaluable. Once she learns light spells, she's a must to stay in your
party.
Colette Brunel
--------------
She is the Chosen One, the next in line to go for world regeneration. Although
clumsy, she is very kind and would help just anybody, even thieves and
assassins ready to kill her. She is a loving character and seems to have a
thing for Lloyd. Rumor has it that her father is actually an angel and not
Frank Brunel of Iselia. Can it be true?
Colette is the worst party member. She can't heal or combo and her basic
attacks have a very long lag time. Her skills are only decent. She does have
special angel skills, but those can easily be replaces by Raine's abilities.
Kratos Aurion
-------------
He is a mysterious character. Not much is known about Kratos. He's quiet and
tries to hide his past. He claims to be a guardian for Colette just for the
sake of being a mercenary, but Raine figures that he's hiding something. What
could it be?
Kratos can use offensive attacks as well as magic attacks. His offense is
stronger than Lloyd's, but his magic is weaker than Genis's and doesn't learn
advanced spells. Kratos can heal although it doesn't recover as much HP as
Raine. His basic attacks are powerful, but a little on the slow side. He's a
great person to have in your party able to fill the role of whoever you need.
Zelos Wilder
------------
A flirty, fun guy, Zelos just likes to hang out with the ladies and ignore his
duties. He is a very high-ranked noble living in his own mansion. He jokes
around a lot and tends to be insensitive. The reason behind that is that he
hates his current role. He hates it so much, it seems that he would do
anything to get out of it. Anything.
Zelos's abilities are the same as Kratos, minus one attack. His attacks are a
little more swifter than Kratos's, but not as strong. Everything else is
exactly the same.
Sheena Fujibayahi
-----------------
Sheena's clothes indicate she is from a foreign place. Her village is isolated
from the rest of the world and she has a thing for trying to kill The Chosen.
She is actually a kind person deep down, but refuses to show it to anybody
who opposes her.
Meh, Sheena's would make it above the decent line if she had better skills.
Her attacks lack range although they are quick and easy to combo. Her
techniques don't do a lot of damage and focuses on lowering stats which
doesn't help if it doesn't effect the enemy.
Presea Combatir
---------------
She is the subject of an Exsphere experiment. The Exsphere is eating away at
her soul and she will die if nothing is done about it. Presea shows no emotion
and the real person is unknown. Her eyes shine with sorrow and her heart is
covered in darkness. Can anybody save her?
The highest strength in the game. Although just a child, she can do loads and
loads of damage. She can't combo well and her basic attack is slow though. If
you want to learn how to use Presea, practice using jumping attacks since they
have the least lag and use Fiery Destruction a lot when you get it.
Regal Bryant
------------
He is a convict. He has a long past that he does not want to tell. Regal was
released from jail promising to capture the Chosen, but ends up joining forces
with them. He is a good man though and has a history with Presea and a bad man
named Varley. His past is slowly revealed during the game showing bitter
encounters and problems.
Regal is difficult to use. He can heal a little bit of HP, but his specialty
is doing combos. His basic attacks are slow, so you must learn how to link his
abilities to do more than a few combos. All of the combos can stack up to
quite a bit of damage.
Yggdrasill
----------
I think his name comes from norwegian mythology. He is the leader of Cruxis
with absurd power ready to crush the Chosen and her group and murder anyone
opposing him. is origins are unknown and so are his intentions. Other than
killing the Chosen anyway. He is the highest being, an angel.
Yuan
----
Yuan is the leader of the Renegades, an outside group with unknown intentions.
They work underground and are a mystery to everyone. His character is
mysterious, but he seems to have a connection with Kratos. They don't seem to
want to know each other though.

==============================================================================
[2.4] Screens
==============================================================================
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.4A) Town/Dungeon Screen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will encounter many dungeons in the game as well as towns. It's pretty
easy to get around, but in case you have a question, I wrote this. Here's a
list of things to watch out for:
1. Commands. At the bottom right corner, you can see commands set for your A
button. If you see one, tap A to perform that action.
2. People. Talking to people will get you many tips on beating the game. They
can also give you items and proceed through the storyline. Make sure you talk
to them twice as some can say or do different things!
3. Save Points. Very important. They are rings of light. When you step on one,
light encircles around you. Press A there to save your game.
4. Treasure Chests. They contain items. Duh.
5. Skits. They will appear on the bottom left corner. Press Z to view them.
Skits are just short scenes between your characters triggered from a certain
event.
While playing, you may also encounter puzzles that require you to move blocks,
use your Sorcerer's Ring, hit switches, and countless other things. Use your
head to solve these puzzles!
You can also find monsters. If you bump into one, a battle will start. If you
don't wish to start a battle, try to aim your Sorcerer's Ring at an enemy.
This will make it turn blue and unable to move for a while. It doesn't always
work, so always be prepared for a battle!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.4B) World Map
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The World Map is where you'll be visiting other towns. While moving with the
control stick, you may see black polygons. Those are monsters. Bump into one
and it start a battle. Different regions have different monster parties.
Forests and beaches also have different monsters.
On the field map, you can save at any point in the game. You can find small
"skit circles", little glowing circles that activate a skit. It's not a normal
skit however, it's one that will end in a question and effect your
relationship with a party member.
While walking on the world map, you may find small tombstone-like objects.
Press A on these and you will be able to enter long-range mode in a specific
area. Long-range mode will not allow you to see skit circles or treasure
chests, but enemies will only move when you're moving and they'll be slower
than usual. The screen will also zoom out allowing you to see more of your
surroundings.
==============================================================================
[2.5] Battle
==============================================================================
Battling is probably the most important aspect of the game. Almost any time
that all your current party members lose in a battle, you will receive the
Game Over screen forcing you to load your game from your last save.
To start a battle, simply bump into one of those polygonal sprites or those
skeleton heads and whatnot. The screen will shatter and your battle will
start. You will control the character that is first in your party. You win the
battle once all of the opposing enemies die by losing all of their HP.
Note: If you have multiple human players in battle, the screen will ONLY zoom
in on player 1. I don't know why the game designers did that because once
player 1 dies, the screen zooms out so you can view everyone. To make everyone
happy, have player 1 be the mage(Genis/Raine) and move all the way to the edge
of the screen and have your target near the opposite edge. This way everyone
can see the screen.
Your Party Status
-----------------
At the very bottom of the screen, you will see your party members. The top
number is their current HP and the bottom is their current TP. Any special
effects on them will also be shown.
Changing Targets and Party Members
----------------------------------
You don't always have to use the same party member on the same monster. Hold
R and press left or right to toggle between enemies. To switch party members,
press Y to enter the menu. Now press Z until you get to the party member you
want to use.
Movement and Techniques
-----------------------
You can move on a 2D plane parallel to your target. Press Left and Right to
move and up to jump. Now that you know how to move, let's practice inflicting
damage to the enemy. Run up to the enemy and start pressing A. Combine A with
up, left/right, or down for different standard attacks.
You can also perform special attacks. To do this, you must first assign them.
Read the section below to know how to that. Once they are assigned, press B
with or without up, down, or sideways to perform that special attack. If that
special attack is a magic attack, it will take some time to perform so it's
best to stand back. Holding B can also charge the attack. If you are hit, then
that attack will be delayed. If you press X, the attack will just be cancelled
completely. Using any kind of technique uses TP. Once you don't have enough
TP to execute a move, you can't use moves until you recover some. Use an item
or use a basic attack to recover TP.
As you level up, you can learn more techniques. You might be required to have
used different moves a certain amount of times though and be on the T or S
side of the scale. For more information, look at the other sections of this
guide.
Remember to guard. This is very important in battles. You can't get away with
always guarding though. If you hold the guard button long enough or get
attacked from behind, you will get a guard break making guarding useless for
a little while.
Unison Attacks
--------------
After some certain events, you will be able to use Unison Attacks. View the
gauge near the bottom. When it is red and full, press Z to activate it. Now
press a combination of A, B, X, and Y with or without a direction to perform
the attacks assigned in the Unison menu. If you did a certain combination, you
will do an extra combo attack!
Unison attacks are good to use because they inflict excellent damage as well
as knocking down the enemy. This also means it interrupts their current
attack.
Combos
------
If you hit an enemy more than three times in a row without them guarding, a
number will appear at the top right corner. This is your combo counter. To
continue a combo after doing an attack, use a special B button technique. They
can link themselves in the order of Level 1, then 2, then 3. Attacks of the
same family(ex: Tiger Blade, then Heavy Tiger Blade) can't be linked together.
Also, each of the same hit will do less damage after the first attack in the
same combo.
Commands
--------
Pressing up, down, and left/right will allow you to choose commands for your
party. These aren't nearly as important as the strategy for your character
chosen at the character menu though.
Stun and Overlimit
------------------
Sometimes, an enemy's attack can stun you and your attack can stun them. This
causes the victim to be unable to move for a few seconds or until they are
attacked. If you are stunned, rapidly button mash and rotate the control stick
to make it go by faster.
After taking a certain amount of damage, you can enter overlimit. Overlimit
allows you to do 1.5x damage and take .5x the damage. You also can't be
stunned or interrupted during any of your attacks. Overlimit only lasts a
short while. While normal monsters can't enter Overlimit, bosses can and they
have the same effects for Overlimit. While in Overlimit, you can also perform
some special attacks...
Recovering
----------
Some attacks will knock you over. While you are in the air, tap X to recover.
If you fall on your back, you will have a short "semi-invincibility" time in
which you take half the damage. You will glow red during this period. Monsters
also take the same effects when they fall.
Technical Smash
---------------
If you do certain things, you will do extra damage and get a "Technical
Smash." This simply means that you did something extra, and that's good.
After Battle
------------
After finishing a battle, the results will be shown. The character that made
the last hit will say something. You will also see some stats.
EXP: The amount of experience that you earned.
Bonus: Bonus points that are added to the experience. To get bonus points, do
technical smashes.
MAX: Your max combo for the battle.
Gald: The amount of Gald earned during the battle.
Time: The amount of time it took to defeat the enemy party.
Grade: The amount of grade that you earn. Grade is very important. You can use
it to trade for hard-to-get items ingame, but more importantly at the end of
the game you must spend it to transfer data to your New Game +. Grade is
determined by the time it took to defeat the enemy, your max combo, damage you
took, and technical smashes done.
==============================================================================
[2.6] Menus
==============================================================================
Pressing Y during field screens or battle will bring up the menu. There are
many, many options that you can do. The battle menu will bring you to the same
screens as the main menu, so I'm going to describe only the main menu.
Main Menu
---------
Right when you open the menu, you can see all your party members. Pressing
Start will shift the view so your can see their stats. Here, you can organize
your characters to change your active party, select your on-map character
(press A on him/her), and view other stats. Your current Gald is displayed at
the top right, and underneath that is your total play time. Underneath that is
the time you spent playing since your last load and then there's the number of
encounters that you've had. Finally, there's your max combo.
On your characters, there's also a very important scale. One is marked T, the
other S. This determines what your character will learn. Some moves can only
be learned on the T side and some on the S. You can't learn both without
using a glitch or a cheating device. For more information on determining which
path your character will take, read the Exspheres menu section a little below
this one.
Tech
----
This will be the screen where you set all of your techniques. Remember,
characters can only have four techniques and two shortcuts at one time. The
screen will show the current character's HP, TP, and status. If you are
viewing a manually controlled character, the control stick + B action to
execute them are listed on the left side. All the moves the character knows
are on the right side. Switch as you will. If you're looking at a computer
controlled character, then it will only show all the moves the computer knows.
You can also turn off moves you don't want the computer to use.
Some of the techs may be written in blue. These are techs that you will
eventually learn once you level up some more, IF you don't have any moves of
the same family on the opposite side of the scale. Any red moves means you
don't have the TP to use it. Gray moves are moves that a computer controlled
character cannot use.
In this screen, you can also choose whether you want your character to be
computer controlled or manual. Switch between modes at the top right. Auto
means computer controlled. Semi-auto means that you control the character, but
the computer can block automatically for you. Manual means that you are the
computer is doing absolutely nothing to interfere with the movements of your
character.
When changing your characters to Manual, they will correspond to the
appropriate controllers. EX: Your third party member on manual will be
controlled by the controller in the third socket of your Nintendo GameCube.
While in this menu, you can use SOME healing magic. This will not count
towards your total amount of times that you used that move.
Unison Attack
-------------
This option will not be available until after you pass the Ossa Trail. This
menu will let you set the moves available for Unison Attacks. Note that the
characters that are manually controlled can only have the same attacks as the
tech menu.
To execute a Unison Attack, you must have a full gauge and the initial attack
must hit. Tap A, B, X, and Y and the control stick to perform moves like you
would with a normal technique. If you perform a special combo, you will do an
additional attack.
Strat
-----
This menu stands for strategy. Here, you will be allowed to set the commands
for your active party members. Pressing up, down, and left or right will allow
you to change the commands for a character when you send an order(pressing
the previous buttons during battle.). Each character can have different
commands depending on their abilities.
Status
------
This screen shows the status of your characters.(Duh.) You'll see the
characters' full names, their stats and equipment, and their title. Here's a
quick laydown of what each of those numbers tell:
1. At the very top, you'll see the character's name.
2. Below that is the title. Titles effect the stats of your characters and
their costumes. Well, some of them. Press A to change your title. Although the
game shows what stats the title raises, it does not show by how much. This
will be mentioned in a later section.
3. Level and move scale. Pretty self-explanatory.
4. Current HP/Maximum HP and Current TP/Maximum TP. Also self-explanatory.
5. The top number is the total amount of experience the character has ever
gotten. The bottom the amount of experience you'll need to earn to get to the
next level.
6. Now here come the stats. I will now have to spend some time to create a
small, boring list of numbers and letters.
Str: This stands for strength. It is the character's base stat for attack.
This determines what the character's maximum attack can be.
Sla: This is slash. It's the attack power for Lloyd's slash attacks. In case
you haven't noticed, only Lloyd has this stat.
Thr: Thrust. It's the attack power for Lloyd's thrust attacks. Again, only
Lloyd has this.
Att: Attack. This is the number that determines how much damage your character
can do to an enemy.
Int: Intelligence. This determines how much damage magic attacks can do as
well as how good you can fend off magic attacks.
Def: This stands for Defense. This number determines how much damage you take
from an enemy attack.
Acc: Accuracy. This adds damage if you are attacking an enemy with low evasion
and you have high accuracy.
Eva: This stands for Evasion. If you have high evasion, you will take less
damage from enemies with low accuracy.
Lck: This is your luck. It determines many game features. I'm not really sure
what, but it's what the manual says. :P This number changes each time you stay
at an inn.
Notes: You can change between slash and thrust attacks for Lloyd by pressing
Y in his status screen. I don't actually see a difference in his attacks so
I don't know is there's actually any changes.
7. Finally, underneath that is a list of your equipment.
Synopsis
--------
Don't you hate it when you play a game, stop for a long time and replay again,
then forget what you were doing? Well, in the synopsis menu you can view all
the storyline events that have recently occurred. There are also hints as to
where you go next and where the event took place on the map to the right.
At the top right, underneath the synopsis name you can see the level you were
at when you started and the date accessed.
Items
-----
A very important menu. You can see a list of all your items here. If you wish
to use one, press A on it. If you wish to discard an item, press X on it. You
can't discard Key Items.
There are several tabs at the right. Scroll through them pressing R and L and
you will see that your list of items is organized.
The first tab tells you the new items that you have obtained. The second is
your "normal" items, the third is you weapons, the fourth your armor, the
fifth is head accessories, the sixth is arm accessories, after that is normal
accessories, then food items, and finally key items.
EX Skills
---------
This is not available at the very beginning of the game, but you don't have to
be that far in to get it. This menu allows you to customize your EX Skills.
Each character will start with one Level 1 EX Gem. You can have a total of
four EX Gems on a character. If you want to add another one, you will have to
delete an already set EX Gem. Once you set an EX Gem, you can't remove it.
EX Gems range from Level 1-4. Each gem will have different abilities for
different characters. Choose the ones that you like. If you choose a special
combination of EX Skills, you can learn an advanced EX Skill. These will be in
effect for as long as you have the required combination. As with EX Skills,
Advanced EX Skills will be different depending on the character.
Equip
-----
In this menu, you can choose the weapons and accessories you choose to place
on your character. Try to fill up all the slots. The first slot if for
weapons, the second is body armor, then head armor, then arm armor, then two
slots for accessories. Each character will be compatible with different items
and weapons. To view the weapons from best to least, tap Y once so the top
right corner of the right menu will say "parameter."
Cooking
-------
After battle, you can cook some food. The food you cook will have an effect
depending on the recipe, additional ingredients, and what each character
likes. You can't cook two recipes in a row. Your characters will complain
about being full. You can cook once every battle, either in or out.
You don't start out with all the recipes though. If you look at the menu,
there will be a whole bunch of ?????'s. This means you did not learn that
recipe yet. To learn one, you must search for Master Chefs. They are usually
hanging around in towns. They are also out of place items, like a hamburger in
a building. Examine it and the Master Chef will give you the recipe.
You also have to buy your own ingredients. Sibak has the best selection of
ingredients. Flanoir and Asgard also has some nice things.
Now, about the menu. The top will show the character that will cook if you
press X. The stars show how well the character can cook the dish. The higher,
the better. The menu to the right tells you the required ingredients.
Underneath that will be additional ingredients that will be used if you cook
that dish. The dish will have higher effects with those additional
ingrediants.
The menu to the left is the recipes that you have. To change recipes, press
A on the recipe name and press A again on the recipe that you want. To change
characters, press A on the character's name. The more times you cook a recipe,
the more stars you'll get and the less times you'll fail.
System
------
Here, you will be able to save, load, and customize your game. Save and Load
are self-explanatory, so I'll explain customizing.
Customizing just allows you to change the window colors in your game and a few
other options. Here's a list:
1. First line is message speed. 0 is the slowest, 9 is the fastest.
2. Battle rank is how hard the monsters are. The higher the rank, the more HP
the monster has.
3. Window: Allows you to change window types. You can't change it back to a
customized one without customizing all over again.
4. Window Background: Changes background textures and colors.
5. Window Color: Changes your window colors. There are many options here. You
must choose colors based on the Red Green Blue pallet. The last one is how
clear the window will be.
6. Volume Settings: Changes many volume settings such as music volume and
stereo/mono.
7. Battle Controls: Changes battle configurations. Why would you do that
though? Default's good.
8. Battle Voiceover: Tired of hearing Lloyd's wanking in battle? That's OK,
turn this off.
9. Event Voiceover: Hate Collete's voice? Turn this off and you won't hear it
during events.
10. Skit Title Display: Turning this off will let you not see skit titles.
11. Movie Subtitles: Self-explanatory.
12. Battle Auto-Zoom: ALWAYS leave this on. If you turn this off, you may not
always see your target or party members.
13. Rumble Feature: There's not too many rumbles in the game, but you can turn
this on or off.
14. Adjust Screen: Lets you position the screen.
BTW, at the top of this menu there are two settings. The left one is Cancel,
the right one is Default.

{3.0} Walkthrough
+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+
Now, we finally begin the long, length, and fun game known as Tales of
Symphonia. Remember, always try to beat the game on your own before looking up
a walkthrough. This walkthrough will contain drastic spoilers although I will
try to keep it to a minimum. Always explore towns and dungrons unless I say
not to because I usually miss some stuff. I doubt anyone is reading this so
let's skip the ads and go right on to the featured presentation. Quiet please,
and no smoking.
Note: All monster stats will be posted in NORMAL mode.

If you think I'm missing an event between two subsections, look for three
stars.
==============================================================================
[3.1] Iselia
==============================================================================
"Transcending history and the world,
a tale of souls and swords, eternally retold."
Whoops, that's Soul Calibur II.
Listen to the introduction. Listen, this is a party member's voice a little
later in the game. After the introduction passes, it will take you to a scene
where your main character is sleeping during class, just like most of you
probably do.
The teacher explains that today is the day of the oracle where the chosen
receives judgement from the Goddess Martel. OK, we don't really care about
that. A flash appears and Raine(the teacher), departs.
You can now control your character. Walk around a bit and talk to everyone
before trying to leave. Try to leave and you will be stopped by that white-
haired kid, Genis. Also your best friend. He will say some stuff and you will
have to choices. The top choice(It's research) will make Genis angry, but you
will be able to exit. The second choice(Okay, fine) will make Genis happy.
If you chose the second choice, a priest will come down saying that the
Desians had attacked the temple even though they have a non-aggression treaty.
You will have a choice told two paragraphs before the boss down below. You will
have to leave the schoolhouse either way.
If you chose the first choice, you can now leave and cut class. Either way,
Genis and Colette join the party. Before you go cut, examine the hole in the
corner of the classroom to get Colette's title Klutz. Use that, then exit the
school.
As soon as you leave, Colette' father, Frank, will catch up to you. Chat, then
you are free to explore the small village. Only one house is open right now,
the shop. It's in the center of town. Go there and buy some Boots for your
Genis and Colette. Equip them, then go back to the school.
Halo:

You will see a Save Point here. You know, the little circle of glowing light.
Save, then try to exit towards the North. You will be attacked by a monster.
This is more of a tutorial. If you read the basics of this FAQ, you won't
really need this. Defeat the Zombie with hack and slashes.
Don't get too victorious yet after the battle. You will be attacked again.
This time, the party is bigger including a zombie and ghost. Don't listen to
what Genis says as he's too stupid to attack the Ghost on his own. Attack
both monsters and get on your way.
Now before leaving up, you will now know what each of the three characters can
do. Use the character that you like the most. Also, set their strategies in
the main menu. Now, leave.
This is the world map. Walk right to the Martel Temple. If you had chosen the
first option with Genis earlier, you will see a scene where a priest drops
dead in front of you. Colette will want to go into the temple by herself. You
now have two choices. The first(I'm going too) will make Genis and Collete
happy. The second(I'll wait here) will make Genis pissed. Again. They both
lead to the same scene, so choose what you want.
Walk up the steps. You'll start a scene where Phaidra gets attacked by Botta.
A battle will commence. This shouldn't be too hard. Hack and slash like before
and you'll do fine. Directly afterwards however, you'll have to fight a boss.
*=====================================*
BOSS: VIDARR
-------------------------------------
No. 220 Type: Human
HP: 4000 EXP: 115
TP: 30 Gald: 25
Atk: 210 Def: 21

Items Dropped: Life Bottle
Loc: Near Iselia
|----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Vidarr isn't so tough. He's just a boss that tests your abilities to
block. He has basic attacks. He can do an upward swing which knocks you
into the air. Tap X to quickly land and continue attacking. He also has a
downward smash with his hammer. This hits multiple people and can deal tons
of damage without guarding. He can also swing his ball-and-chain knocking
several party members away. Vidarr has only one special attack which is
called Shatter Shot. This gives you a guard break and deals normal damage.

The strategy for Vidarr is to simply hack and slash. I recommend using
Lloyd or Genis for this one. If you use Genis, simply stand back and use
magic. This will prevent you from taking damage while the computers hack
and slash. Use Orange Gels when necessary. If you use Lloyd, then simple
use a Demon Fang, ->A, A and A combo for five hits. Vidarr is slow, so this
should stun him long enough. If you see him rearing up for an attack, guard
immediately. Don't worry about your other party members. If you haven't set
their strategy yet, make sure you do that now in the Y menu.

Whether you're winning or not, after about 1000 HP damage or so, a
mysterious stranger will jump in to help you battle. He has the ability to
heal, make sure you set him to heal automatically or switch to him. The
stranger attacks slower than Lloyd, but is more powerful and can cast
magic! Continue bashing and he should be done in no time.
*============================================================================*
After the battle, you will get a scene. You will learn that the man's name is
Kratos. Lloyd will notice that he has an Ex Sphere. Since priests were killed
in the battle, Colette will need new guardians to help her through the temple.
Mysterious Stranger, now introduced as Kratos, will act as a mercenary. Kratos
seems to have some interest in Lloyd, but does not want him to tag along. You
now have two choices. The top choice "What did you say?" will make Kratos hate
you more. The bottom choice "...Gotcha" will impress Kratos. Either way,
you'll tag along and drag Genis into it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.1A) Martel Temple
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This isn't a field trip, you know."
As you enter the Martel Temple, Colette's superhuman senses will kick in
telling you that there's monsters around. Kratos will also diss you and give
you a Training Manual for beginners. You should know the stuff in it already,
but it's in your Key Items section if you ever want to read it. Now, before
heading into your first dungeon, head back to Iselia to restock on items. Now
let's continue.

The monsters here are any combination of spiders, ghosts, zombies, or slimes.
There are 3-4 monsters in each party and no more than two of one kind. Golems
appear in the block area, but only until you solve the puzzle.
Taking the path to the left will take you to a dead end. Walking up will get
you to a scene telling you that you need to get a Sorcerer's Ring. So let's
take the right path down the staircase. A scene will start showing you the
Sorcerer's Ring. Then a battle will start with a Golem. It's a piece of cake
with only two attacks. Go about the same was as Vidarr and it'll be done in
no time.
After defeating the Golem, it will turn into a block. Colette will trip and it
will fall into a hole showing you how to solve the puzzle. You'll regain
control afterwards. Defeat another Golem and shove it into any hole in the
middle row. Before actually completing the bridge going north, push the blocks
into the gaps at the sides. The path to the left takes you to a Life Bottle
and the right to a Panacea Bottle. Now, finish the bridge in the middle and
walk up the steps for the Sorcerer's Ring. Tap X to make it blow fire! Whee!
Environmental danger!
Golems are now gone replaced by normal monsters. Before heading back to the
entrance, take the left staircase on the platform with holes in it. There will
be three treasure chests containing an Apple Gel, Life Bottle, and 250 Gald,
all very useful. Now, go back to the entrance of the temple and walk up the
middle path. Tap X to fire the Sorcerer's Ring and disarm the force field.
Warp into the next room and watch the scene.
When it's over, talk to the characters and try to warp out. Colette and Kratos
will ditch you, so head back to Iselia after watching a scene. At the north
entrance of Iselia, take the right path to Colette's house. Go inside to see
a scene where Kratos and Raine will guide Colette through her journey of world
regeneration. You will get a Collector's Book as Phaidra's thanks for helping
Colette. After that scene, walk over to Genis's house on the left side of
town. Go inside to get ingrediants for a sandwich. You can also view a
tutorial on cooking. Before exiting, examine the bookcase on the left to view
a scene about Genis.
When you exit, walk over to the shop to stock up on food especially if you're
a beginner. Buy sandwiches and a few gels if you think you'll need them. Now
exit down south to view a scene about Lloyd's big-eared dog, Noishe.
On the world map, head west to reach the forest. Now let's get past this to
reach Dirk's house.

Nobody here's a real threat; they all use basic attacks. Decent training posts
if you need to get used to the battle style. These monsters come in parties of
two, sometimes three.
As you enter the forest, you will get a scene. When it's over, continue
walking right and you will reach a fork. Go left for an Apple Gel. Take the
right path up a hill to continue and also receive a Life Bottle. You will
eventually reach another fork, but a scene will start forcing you to go left.
Save first at the save point, the proceed.
* * *
You will now be in the human ranch. In case you're wondering, yes, it's
exactly how it sounds. Walk to the left part of the ranch to see a scene and
meeting Marble. You will have to make a decision. The first is "Fine.", making
Genis happy. "But..." will make Genis angry. After that, you will make another
decision. I'm not sure which one is more positive here, but it seems that
"But..."(the second choice) has a more positive effect on Genis.
Since Lloyd is a good person, he wants to help Marble. Head to the right side
of the ranch to learn about action commands. Tap A to jump up the ledges.
Don't forget the Orange Gel at the right. At the top of the ledges, a scene
will start. Watch it and you will end up in a minor battle. Take out both
Whip Masters. This should be fairly easy even in Mania Mode. Block and attack
in a rhythm and you should easily win the battle.
Watch the last part of the scene. Lloyd's in trouble now, eh? Anyways, we now
regain control of Lloyd as Genis leaves the party and dumps all of his
equipment on you. Equip Lloyd with him and save. Now continue upwards. You
will reach a fork. Go up and left for an Apple Gel. Go up and right for a
Leather Glove(I recommend getting this right now since you're probably a bit
lacking in the money department) and take the middle right path for an Apple
Gel. Take either the middle or lower path right to continue. Cross the bridge
for 500 Gald! Continue up to the next screen.
Here, you will see a tree branch with an item bag(the only item bag in the
game) lying on it. Walk up and get the Orange Gel is contains. Exit north to
get onto the World Map. Walk towards Dirk's house.
* * *
A scene will start as soon as you enter. Go inside the house and watch as
night slowly falls. When you go outside, Colette will want to have a word with
you. Say "Just a minute."(the second choice) You will now be able to walk
around for a bit. Talk to all your party members, then talk to Colette again.
Watch the scene.
When you regain control again, it'll be morning. Go downstairs and save. Head
out and talk to Dirk at the left side of the house near the grave. Another
scene will start. At the end, you will receive two Apple Gels, one Life
Bottle, 500 Gald, nad a Sylvarant World Map. Genis will come running up saying
that Colette has left for her journey. You will automatically teleport to
Iselia. Genis rejoins your party. Re-equip him and go talk to Phaidra in
Colette's house. Watch another scene. When that's done, go outside.
omgwtfbbq! The village is on FIRE! Save at the new save point and walk to the
left. Go near the schoolhouse and fight a Whip Master and Bowman. When they're
defeated, you'll get one Apple Gel and Orange Gel as a thanks for saving him.
Swing over to Genis's house now by taking the SIDE path to see it burn down.
Now go back up and over to Phaidra's house. Talk to Frank to heal and save
again. This time, exit and go right. Fight two more folks, then continue
downwards to trigger yet another scene. When it ends, you'll have to fight a
boss.
*=====================================*
BOSS: EXBELUA
-------------------------------------
No. 179 Type: Beast
HP: 5000 EXP: 280
TP: 38 Gald: 320

|----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Tougher than Vidarr since we've only got Genis and Lloyd this time. Exbelua
has only a few attacks. It can use a sideways swipe or an uppercut. The
uppercut will knock your character upwards. It has two special attacks.
Insane Cell is usually used only once when below 2000 HP. It only has a
small range though and no damage is dealt when you guard. It's usually only
used once for some reason. Impact Hammer on the other hand is used multiple
times under 2000 HP and is a two hit combo. Guarding will greatly reduce
damage though.

Whether you're using Genis or Lloyd, long range attacks will come in handy.
That means Fire Ball and Demon Fang. As Genis, stay towards the back wall
and just tap whatever's set at B as much as you can. As Lloyd, try to pull
off the five hit combo of ->A, A, A and Demon Fang to interrupt all of
Exbelua's attacks. With Genis's magic, it should be held off at bay a lot.
Don't try to rush your attacks though, if you see an attack coming, don't
interrupt it if you can't. Guard, then begin your combos again. Combos are
essential to winning this battle.
*============================================================================*
Watch the sad scene after the defeat of Exbelua. Take one last look at Iselia
when you regain control, then leave. You will promptly obtain the "Drifting
Swordsman" title.

(3.1C) World Map
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Please catch up to the Chosen and protect her. If in doing so, the
world is saved, surely everyone will change their minds about you."
You now arrive on the world map. You will now be able to equip Ex Spheres, so
check into that if you want. I personally think that the computer did a fine
job in choosing their Ex abilities though. You can train a bit here, but the
monsters are mostly the same as the forest and just as sucky.

(Forest only)
So, let's start heading south. Right near Iselia, you may see Nora's Caravan.
Enter and you will receive a short scene and become fully healed. Handy. Exit,
then continue South.
You will get a scene just as you approach the House of Salvation. Get a tardy
explanation of Ex-Skills, then approach the House of Salvation smack in the
middle of the path. Entering will start another scene and automatically get
you the Long-Range mode for the Iselia area as well as a tutorial on Long
Range mode. There's nothing else here, so let's move on.
Heading directly south from the HoS will get you to Triet. Be careful when
entering the desert though as there are really tough enemies there for only
two party members.
==============================================================================
[3.2] Triet
==============================================================================
"Does it really matter why we're looking for her? You think too
much when you don't have to!"
Entering Triet will trigger a scene. Watch, then feel free to explore. Make
sure you examine the poster that was put up. Heading into the western part of
town will trigger a small event where a man will ask you for a Beast Hide.
If you don't have one, go hunting for rabbits near Iselia. If you do, he'll
give you a free Soft Leather! Excellent, we need more stuff for free. Equip,
and now we are able to customize in this town. There are also several shops.
Consider buying some of the weapons for Lloyd and Genis.
Traveler's Mate:

| Cape | 100G |
+----------------------------+
I doubt that you have enough money to actually buy everything that you want,
so just buy the Knight's Saber for now. If you can afford a weapon for Genis,
get that too. The armor's a bit expensive to actually be worth your money. Get
a Beret or any cheap items that you can afford. Also restock on gels. MAKE
SURE YOU SAVE 100 GALD!!!
Well, while we are shopping, there's another store that sells food up north in
the town.
Desert Rose:
+----------------------------+
| Item Name | Price |
----------------------------
| Pork | 120G |
| Onion | 60G |
| Cabbage | 60G |
| Mushroom | 60G |
| Barley Rice | 60G |
| Bread | 70G |
| Red Satay | 200G |
+----------------------------+
If you can afford bread, cabbage, and pork, get it. But it's really more worth
it to spend your money on weapons.
We're not ready to proceed yet! Go into the inn near the entrance of town. At
the top of the hallway, there will be a Wonder Chef ready to give up a recipe
for Cabbage Rolls. It's very useful. Now, let's proceed.
Head up to the ugly-looking tent in the northern part of town. Talk to the
fortune teller and cough up 100 Gald for her to tell you where the Chosen is.
They tell you that they're heading towards the Fire Seal, so that's out next
destination. Before exiting the town, make sure you save. Talking to the
fortune teller again will also allow her to tell you free friendship ratings.
Now, save and heal. Make sure you have examined the poster(it's not necessary,
but you can go see the hole near the Sand Shield for an additional scene only
available now).
Some Desians will have caught up to you and want to kick your ass. Start the
battle and go after the Bowman first as usual so Genis can cast spells. When
they're defeated, the scene will continue and you'll be brought over to a
mysterious place.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.2A) Sylvarant Base
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Red, red, red. Does my outfit really stand out that much?"
As soon as you wake up, Lloyd will notice that his equipment is gone. Very
wise, young lad. Tap X to hit the soldier just as he is walking guy. This will
scare the guy and make him running. Somehow, you can open the jail cell now
so do so. Take a swing to the left to find a chest containing Beast Hide and
a Save Point. Great!
After saving, walk to the right and you should pass by an open area. Grab the
chest containing your equipment and continue down the hallway. Lloyd will get
caught by some "Desians," and a battle will start. Take the two down quickly;
you shouldn't need gels. If you do, you need some hard training.
Once they're dead, continue up the door to watch a scene. The silly Desians
give you the answer to the puzzle. It's still an ass to do though. Examine the
device to change the function of your Sorcerer's Ring. It shoots cool bolts of
electricity now.

Shock the Raybits so that they are on the blue pad. Make sure you shock both
of them quickly though as they're not going to just sit there and wait for you
to finish. You can battle these Raybits. If you Run Away, then you'll end up
outside of the room. Killing them will make you start the puzzle all over
again, so it really makes no difference what you do to these things.
When you solve the annoying puzzle, the door to the left will be unlocked. Go
through. There will be a fork. Go up to get a Beast Fang and find a machine
that acts as a shop. Restock, then go back out and walk to the left. You'll
have to solve another puzzle here.
First, there's a Memory Circle here. If you have a Memory Gem, feel free to
unlock it and make a Save Point. If you don't, then just hope you'll beat the
upcoming boss. He's not too hard, don't worry about it.
Examine the pedestal to learn about the rules for this puzzle. What you want
to do is to line up a light with any one of the doors. Each column to the left
represents a certain degree, such as 90 or 180. Now, here's the combination to
proceed. Hit the top pole, then the very bottom one. This will open up the
Control Room. Go through and watch the scene.
Your party comes just in time. Now we're not alone for the boss fight!

Botta comes with some cronies to bother you. Take them out first. After
that, concentrate on Botta. Botta starts the battle with a one-two slash
and an attack that cuts around him. This attack attacks all of your party
members. Botta will also cast Fire Ball if you're at a distance. That's
bad; you can't block it yet. Keep Lloyd pounding with Sword Rain and Tiger
Blade techs while Kratos cranks out First Aid spells. Genis should be
aiding you with magic. Colette's pretty useless, but if you want her to do
something, set her at Frontlines and constantly using Ray Thrust.

When Botta's taken enough beating, he may get an Overlimit. He'll have
higher attack and defense stats, so just run like a bunch of pussies until
he calms down a little. While in Overlimit, use Demon Fang and long
distance attacks if you can. When it's over, continue pounding on him with
close range attacks.

When Botta's HP starts to dwindle, he will use Stalagmite instead of Fire
Ball as his distance attack. This is a powerful Level 2 Earth attack and
will cause LOADS of damage on your party. What's worse, unless you can do
a lot of damage in one blow, he won't be stunned. Run away as soon as he
starts casting and hope that you can outrun the spell. Botta will also use
Rock Breaker when you're nearby. This will also do tons of damage although
it looks weak. A simple guard will reduce the damage greatly though. The
key to winning this battle is to keep close and hope he doesn't pull off
Stalagmite. Kratos's First Aid is also very helpful, but not essential.
Keep your party members' offense going!
*============================================================================*
Once Botta's finished, you'll watch a scene. Raine will run up and you'll exit
the Sylvarant Base immediately.

Watch out for Scorpians and Sidewinders. They have high attack and can poison
you. That's really annoying. BTW, any green parts of the desert will yield the
same monsters as the Iselia area.
OK, now before heading back to Triet, go East of the Sylvarant Base to find
your first monument near a cliff. You will now be able to use Long-Range Mode
here in the desert if you don't feel like fighting. Now, head back South West
to Triet again. While you're going there, you'll get a mandatory skit with
Kratos. Watch the skit, then combos and status effects will be added to your
training manual.
When you reach Triet, you'll automatically have to watch a scene. When you
regain control, you'll be inside the inn. Talk to Kratos and ditch him. Go
upstairs and enter Raine and Genis's room. A scene will start with Raine.
Watch, and when it ends talk to her again to raise her affection towards you.
Talk to Genis and you will have two options. "Pinch his nose!"/"Let's not wake
him." The first one, as you can probably tell, will make Genis angry. The
second will start up a scene.
Exit, then Lloyd will see Kratos running out. Follow him(first option) to
raise his affection rate.
Head next door. If you don't want Colette to like you, then say "Let's not
(option 2), then try to go in again and actually go in this time. If you went
inside the first time, a scene with Colette will start up. If you said no,
then talking to Colette will just make her say "I don't like Bell Peppers."
When you're done with all your little events, head back to your room and
confirm the first option to take a snooze. When you wake up, save and go
outside for a scene. You'll get the Monster List from this scene. Don't forget
to fill it with information! Use Magic Lens on every new enemy that you find.
Raine will also join your party. Immediately dump Colette for her as she is
downright the most useful character in the entire game. AKA, your white mage.
Restock. Buy some dandy equipment and set foot to the Triet Ruins. Just
turning the screen using the shoulder buttons should allow you to see the
place from Triet.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.2B) Triet Ruins
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as you enter, you'll get a nice scene where Kratos teaches Lloyd
Guardian, Colette Damage Guard, and Genis and Raine Force Field and battle two
really weak enemies. Dandy. Now approach the ruins and you will get another
mandatory scene resulting in Raine receiving the "Archeological Mania" title.
Now, let's enter.

Here come the toughies. Fake only takes real damage from magic attacks. None
of your magic is particularly strong right now(unless you have 10x EXP), so
it's best to avoid the chest containing it until later on. Many monsters here
can also cast magic. Practice using defensive tactics here just like Kratos
taught you.
Inside the temple, follow the path until the fork. Take the lower/left path
to the very end. You should see a chest covered by rocks. Use your Sorcerer's
Ring on it so you can open it. Obtain the Lemon Gel(very useful at this point
in game) and enter the adjacent door. Light both torches in this area with
your ring and head back to the junction. This time, go through the middle
door. Make sure you get the treasure chest at the top of the path containing a
Bracelet and Life Bottle. Get the Apple Gel containing chest near the bottom
as well. Now, let's push the blocks into the hole. Go up the stairs for
treasure chests containing a Savory, Mumei, and 1000 Gald! Excellent.
Light up at the bottom of the stairs and exit back to the junction. Go up the
path and IGNORE the treasure chest. This chest has a Mimic monster. Unless you
think you have powerful magic, don't open it. Instead, go through the door
next to it. Walk along the path until you reach the end. Push the block into
the hole so you can light the torch with your Sorcerer's Ring. Move to the
little platform to so you can get a weapon for Kratos: the Stiletto. Walk to
the newly raised platform. Head up the stairs to see a platform which you
should have raised earlier. Walk across to get a Circlet. Now, make your way
to the Memory Circle. If you have a Memory Gem, I recommend that you use it.
Teleport.
Watch the scene. Yeah, this is the end of the dungeon. Yeah, there's a boss
here. Yeah, you'll have to fight it.

Ktugach and his cronies work together as a team. Ktugachlings will burn the
crap out of you with constant Fire Ball spells. However, that's all they
can do. Have your close range fighter start whooping them first so they
don't interrupt any spellcasters or stupid AIs fighting the main boss.
If your Lloyd has Tempest, it will come in real handy here as the bosses
float and are big.

You're at a real disadvantage to this fight since Colette's required to be
in your party. I recommend you replace Genis with her because Kratos and
Raine have superior healing abilities which you need. Ktugach isn't
terribly hard; you just need to remember to block often. He doesn't stun
easily, so if his head goes down, block immediately. He will send spikes
that cover quite a distance and deals multiple hits for tons of damage.
Once in a while, he will sweep the entire area with his tail. This hits
many party members.

If you have a lot of HP, send Kratos to the frontlines to help you attack.
Lloyd and Colette should always be in the frontlines. DO NOT allow Ktugach
to cast Eruption. Like Botta's Stalagmite, this is a level 2 magic attack
that covers a wide area and deals unbelievable amount of damage. Use your
defensive technique(Guardian, Force Field, etc.) to reduce damage. Guarding
spells do NOTHING.

Keep up your defense in the battle. Use Orange Gels if anybody runs out of
TP, especially Raine. Remember to watch for his attacks and guard when
needed.
*============================================================================*
After defeating the guardian of the seal, you'll get another visit from
Remiel telling you the next seal is across the sea. Whoopee. You will be fully
healed from this fight, so exit the dungeon.
As soon as you exit, you'll come upon another scene. When you regain control,
talk to your party members. Talking to Genis will yield two replies: "It was
missing something" or "It tastes pretty good." Choose the first option to make
Genis happy and the second to make him sad. Talk to Raine and you'll also get
two options. "Colette is Colette" will make her feel better and "She's just
becoming an angel" will be indifferent. Talking to Kratos will yet again have
two options. Both pleases him. Colette will start up a scene. Talk to her
again to complete this event.
* * *
Once the scene is completed, to back to Triet to restock. You'll also get a
scene where Raine gets a new title, "Sisterly Love." It's the only time that
you can get it, so make sure you do! When you're done, head out East to the
Ossa Trail.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.2C) Ossa Trail
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walk a bit along the trail and you'll already stumble upon a scene. Quite an
abrupt one too, starting with "Stop!" and ending with "Prepare to die!" You
will have two choices to select afterwards. "Leave her alone, she's an enemy"
makes Raine and Kratos happy, but Colette and Genis sad. The second choice has
the opposite effects.
Meh, when that's over, start walking along the path. It's long and pretty
straightforward.

We've got a good mix of monsters here. Some are long range attacks, some have
powerful defenses, and some cast magic. As always, go after spellcasters and
long range attackers first so that you can clear the way for your own mages.
While walking, you will pass a fork. Take the tiny left path for a Battle
Staff. Equip it immediately, then continue. You will then arrive at a fat
area. Walk downwards before moving on and save there. There's also a couple of
chests containing a Melange Gel and Apple Gel. When that's done, heal up and
walk along the right path. You'll pass by a chest containing an Orange Gel.
After some more bumbling along the path, you'll reach the end of the trail.
Watch the scene. She just doesn't give up, does she?

I recommend not using Genis in this one and keep up close ranged attacks.
There are two enemies here, both specializing in close range attacks and
not giving you too much time to cast. Start out by going close to Raine and
guarding her. Set the other two party members to scatter. Whichever enemy
comes your way, start pounding on it. Use your strongest techniques. Since
you are taking care of the enemy attacking Raine, she should be free to
cure you. If somehow, both enemies get close to Raine, shoo them away with
any Sonic Thrust attacks.

Clumsy Assassin has simple attacks. She hits with one or two close range
attacks, then follows that up with Pyre Seal. She can be stunned, but her
attacks are quick so it's best to guard. Pyre Seal does over 100 damage and
knocks you back. Guarding against it will reduce the damage and not send
you flying though.

The Wind Guardian has more annoying attacks. It doesn't get stunned that
often and its basic attacks have long reach. It also does several combos
and can breathe fire. Use your defensive move on the fire, guard everything
else.
*============================================================================*
When you're done with that, go inside the cave where the assassin just came
from. There's a nice cave there.

DO NOT fight the Sword Dancer yet unless you have 2x or 20x experience. It is
every tough at this point in time. Wait until you are around level 20 before
you try.
So, when you're done exploring that and is back outside, try to exit the Ossa
Trail. You'll receive a mandatory skit that will allow you to use Unison
Attacks. Read the tutorial if you wish, or just use this awesome, godly guide.
When you're finally out, head South East to reach Izoold.
NOTE: After this point, there are two paths that you can take. You can go up
north towards Luin which is the harder path, or go to Palmacosta via Izoold.
Luin has much harder monsters, but you will benefit by getting a party member
early and training up big time. Once you enter Luin, you won't be able to go
to Palmacosta until after the Tower of Mana. If you still choose this route,
skip ahead to the Luin/Asgard section of this guide.

Welcome to the humble, seaside port of Izoold. As soon as you enter, you may
want to enter the first building and pay up 100 Gald to sleep. This will most
likely give you a skit and heal all the bruises that mean ol' assassin and her
pet did to you. When that's done, save and exit.
Head towards the house next to the Katz. You know, the pink ugly things with
human faces but cat costumes. You will get a scene and meet someone named
Lyla. When that's over, exit and head towards the right side of town. The
house there should have a Wonder Chef teaching Rice Ball, so make sure you get
that as it's a good recipe. There's also a Katz here that will play EB! with
Genis. Read the mini-game section for details. This is a good game to play
whether you need money or items.
With that done, walk towards the pier to start up another scene. When it's
done, talk to Max. Although he claims that there's a lot of monsters in the
sea, it's not true. Silly Max.

+----------------------------+
There are a whole lot of shops here in Palmacosta. Now where to start? You
might want to get extra ingredients to cook what you can. This'll be useful
later on for titles. Life Bottles are also good to buy if you are low in
stock. There's a huge variety of weapons and armor to buy. First, buy a Rapier
for Lloyd and customize it into a Masamune. Customize whatever you can, but
DON'T use any of your hard-earned Grade for supplies. Grade will be much more
useful later on in the game. I also recommend that you don't buy any armor.
It's too expensive to be useful now, but if you really want some just get some
Leather Boots.
Before we start exploring, look out for the "To Fight the Strong" skit. It
will add Battle Tips to the Training Manual which is always dandy. Head over
to the lower part of town to start an automatic scene. We have to find a Palma
Potion now. If you want to save before doing this, walk to the left of the
folks and there will be an inn(Skipper's Haven, 200G) and a save point. To get
a Palma Potion, we have to walk across the bridge on your right and go two
houses down. On that second house, go inside to start a scene and meet
Chocolat. Talk to her mother and you will be able to buy a Palma Potion. Even
if you have the money, don't buy it! Just talk to her and exit the menu.
Chocolat's mom will now mention about a cafeteria wanting help. That's where
we're going to get some free stuff, so let's head there now. Go to the right
part of town. Over to the bottom right corner will be a house. Going inside
will trigger a scene with Genis. Accept the ugly child's challenge. When that
scene ends, examine the ball thing right in front of you next to the
staircase. There will be a Wonder Chef teaching you an omelet recipe!
To complete the scene with Genis though, head to the second floor of this
building. Go inside the first room to start a "preparation" scene. When that's
over, head to the room right of the one you were just in to start the test.
There will be three questions that you need to answer.
1. What did Lloyd learn in Triet Ruins?
1. Sword Rain
*2. Guardian
3. I don't know
2. What was Genis talking about in the Ossa Trail?
*1. Acceleration due to gravity
2. Universal gravitation
3. I don't know
3. Where was Lloyd born?
1. Iselia
2. Dirk's House
*3. I don't know
*right answers
If you answer all the questions right or two of them right, you will get the
Honor Roll title. If you don't get any of them right, then you don't. Boohoo.
BTW, in case you're wondering, acceleration due to gravity is a real concept
and Lloyd was found by Dirk in the mountains.
Note: This event is also available when you have all eight party members.
Now that we have that done, go back to the first floor. Go to the second room
to the right and talk to the guy at the counter. This was the cafeteria
Chocolat's mom was talking about. We can do some work here.
This is a mini-game, so refer to the mini-game section for help with this. If
you do the job successfully once, Colette will earn the title "Turbo
Waitress." You'll also get some money and a FREE Palma Potion!
Before we leave Palmacosta though, there's still something that we have to do.
Go two houses to the left of the academy that you were just at to find a big
building. Go inside to trigger a scene. When that's done, go back outside and
go inside the building to the right. Talk to the pastor there at the very back
and he'll explain some things to you.(In of course, another scene.) And one
last thing before we get going. Talk to one of the guards outside Dorr's
building twice and you will get a scene with Kratos. You can only get it
during this time and it increases Kratos's relationship with you.
Now, let's get moving. Walk left back to where the people with the broken
Palma Potion are waiting. Another scene happens. Now, I can finally call that
party the impostors.
With the impostors out of the way, we can continue the story. Anyway, exit
Palmacosta.

**Forest
Not too many new monsters here. They all suck anyway, and if they overwhelm
you then you are underleveled.
South East of Palmacosta, you will see Nora's Caravan. Go there to start a
scene about Aska. Talk to each of the people there, then the scene will wrap
up. Now, head up North. To find the monument allowing Long-Range Mode here,
look at the eastern side of a mountain above the river.
Keep going all the way to the North. Ignore anything that you see except the
House of Salvation. It's smack right in the middle of the main path, so you
can't miss it. Inside the house, if you don't have a Sheena, then you will get
a scene with her. You will have two choices, "Speak to her/Leave her alone."
Both lead up to the same thing. I think "Leave her alone" makes Sheena's
affection go up though, according to the affection FAQ on GameFAQs.
When the scene finishes, you are free to continue. Heal if you need to, then
continue to go North above the House of Salvation. You will eventually reach
Hakonesia peak.
Note: Long-Range Mode here requires another monument. To find it, look to the
right of Hakonesia Peak on the end of the peninsula.
* * *
Nothing much happens here. If you go inside the house, you will get a scene
where a man demands an absurd amount of money to pass through the mountain and
look at the Spiritua Book that the impostors sold him. He requests the
Spiritua Statue. If you give him that, he'll let you read the book. Since we
don't have it, we'll have to go look for it.
When you exit the house, you will get a scene saying that Palmacosta is under
attack by Magnius of the eastern human ranch. Of course, we're going to step
in and save the people. Return to Palmacosta as soon as you can.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.4A) Conspiracy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once in Palmacosta, head directly to the eastern most part of town. There,
you'll see a violent scene with "vermins" and "heads that should have fell but
didn't so the game wouldn't get an M rating and not be bought by teenagers."
In the middle of the scene, you will have to engage in a battle against two
Whip Masters and an Evil Sorcerer. No matter what level you're at, these guys
are cake. You've been fighting Whip Masters since the beginning of the game,
so you know how they work.
When the scene is over, we have to head back to the House of Salvation. I know
you don't want to do all that walking again especially if you don't have Long-
Range Mode. Don't worry, talk to the woman closest to the exit. She will ask
if you can take her to Hakonesia Peak. Just say part of the way and you'll be
over at the House of Salvation in no time.
At the House of Salvation, you will get a scene. You will have two choices,
"Yeah, okay" or "Releasing the seals come first." Most party members will be
disappointed by the second choice. Either way, we'll have to get to the
Palmacosta Human Ranch. Let's go!
The human ranch is located just southeast of the House of Salvation. It's
hidden on the side of a mountain so you might have to search a bit to find it.
It's near Thoda Dock(if you've been there already) and is surrounded by a
forest. When you reach there, proceed forward and Neil will confront you. You
will witness a spoilerfull scene. This leaves you with two decisions: "Let's
go attack!" or "Let's return to Palmacosta." The latter makes more of your
party members happy. It doesn't really matter which path you choose although
I'll be covering the return to Palmacosta since I chose that path.
"Let's return to Palmacosta."
Once you've reached Palmacosta again, save and go into Dorr's house. It's the
big one guarded on the eastern part of the town. You will see nobody in the
lobby, so go downstairs into the basement. A scene will occur followed by an
ugly boss fight. Literally.
